2007 Act 219 requires the electronic filing of all real estate transfer returns on or after July 1, 2009
Electronic Real Estate Transfer Return (eRETR)
- Submit a new eRETR.
- Restore a previously saved eRETR.

Paper Real Estate Transfer Return (PE-500)
- Under sec. 77.22(2), Wis. Stats., an individual may request the Department of Revenue (DOR) to waive the requirement to file electronically.
- Obtain a Waiver (PE-500w) from the electronic filing requirement:
- Contact DOR at (608) 266-2149.
- Contact a Register of Deeds Office.
- Waiver (PE-500w) completion instructions.
- Paper Real Estate Transfer Return (PE-500a) completion instructions
Note: "Filed" means documents received for recording with the Register of Deeds, not the date of the conveyance or post mark. If you do not have an approved waiver, the Register of Deeds will return any paper Return that is received on or after July 1, 2009.
Amended Real Estate Transfer Return (PE-500x)
- An amended Return is for use after the document has been recorded by the Register of Deeds.
- An amended Return corrects electronic Returns (eRETR), paper Returns (PE-500) and the amount of transfer fee.
- File an amended PE-500x for an eRETR, paper return correction, or refund.
