  1. Why do I need an authorization letter?

Access to the e-filing system is restricted, to protect your privacy and the privacy of others, and will require a Web Access Management System (WAMS) ID. Your WAMS User ID and password verifies your identity so we can provide you with access to your information and prevent access by unauthorized individuals. Registration for a WAMS User ID is available at https://on.wisconsin.gov.

  2. What should I include in my authorization letter?

Check out the WAMS User ID instructions.

  3. How do I grant a tax preparer or my accounting firm access to my account?

Check out the WAMS User ID instructions.

  4. If I am an accounting firm, how do I access my client's accounts?

Check out the WAMS User ID instructions.

  5. Who has access to my accounts?

You can allow as many people as you wish authority to access to your accounts. When you send in your signed authorization letter, include the name of the authorized user and the WAMS User ID of all of the people you wish to have access to your accounts.

  6. What if I need to change authorized users or tax preparers?

It is the manufacturer's responsibility to notify Department of Revenue (DOR) of authorization changes. Mail or fax a signed letter, to the District Office responsible for your account, with the following information:

    • The name and WAMS User ID of the person who should no longer have access to your account.
    • The name and WAMS User ID of the person replacing the previous person who was authorized. Do not include passwords. DOR will update the account allowing the new user access to the account and removing the previous user's access.
    • The computer numbers of the accounts which will be affected by this change.

When the letter has been received by the District Office, DOR will update the account allowing the new user access to the account and removing the previous user's access.

  7. Are there different levels of authority in this system, i.e. viewing vs. filing?

No, when a user is granted authority to access an account they have full authority to utilize any feature of the system.
