  1. What is file transfer?

The file transfer method allows employers to send an Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) payment along with the information needed to identify the amount to be credited for each employee.

    File transfer is:

    • A secure process for receiving payment and information of wage attachment payments.
    • Written in XML language using a Department of Revenue (DOR) web server.
    • Offers a web interface and scripted transmission method.
    • Allows one payment for multiple employees per XML file.
  2. How do I get started?

Review the information and instructions at revenue.wi.gov/eserv/wage/index.html

  3. How do I make a payment?

Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) payment information is included in the file. DOR will take the money from your account on the date you specify.

  4. When can I send a file?

You may send a file at any time.

  5. Can I submit a test file?

Yes, the transfer page asks if the file is a test. Select "Yes" if you are testing.

  6. How will I know if my file was accepted?

You will receive a confirmation number right away. This number means your file has been received. After a few minutes, we will send an email. This email confirms your file was accepted or rejected. If rejected we will list the reasons for the rejection. Check your spam filter if you have not received your confirmation. If you have not received an email within 24 hours after sending the file, contact DOR.

  7. How do I change a submitted transmission?

Electronic files cannot be recalled or intercepted in process after we have confirmed receipt.

    • If you overpaid, you will need to contact the DOR to arrange for a refund.
    • If you underpaid, you will need to submit a new payment for that employee.
