Prepayment of Tax

  1. Can I prepay my 2014 Wisconsin income tax liability and then claim exemption from Wisconsin withholding?

    Yes, you can. To claim an exemption from withholding you must:

    1. Submit full payment of your 2014 Wisconsin estimated tax liability using a 2014 prepayment voucher, Wisconsin Form A-115 or make your payment online by December 31, 2013. If you are using a voucher, please mail it to the Wisconsin Department of Revenue, Exceptions Review Unit, Mail Stop 3-164, PO Box 8966, Madison, WI 53708-8966.
    2. Form W-200, Certificate of Exemption from Withholding for Prepayment of Estimated Tax, will be mailed to you after your payment has been received and processed. Authorized persons in the Wisconsin Department of Revenue will sign the Form W-200. You will receive two copies of the signed Form W-200. You must give one copy of the signed Form W-200 to your employer. The other copy is for your records.
  2. Can I make my prepayment online?

    Yes, you can. To make your payment, access the department's online payment application at My Tax Account. Choose Pay Online for Individuals and Fiduciaries. The tax type should be Individual Income Tax. The payment type should be W-200 Prepayment. When your payment is processed, a Form W-200, Certificate of Exemption from Withholding for Prepayment of Estimated Tax, will be automatically mailed to you.
