Filing Deadlines

  1. What is the deadline for filing my Wisconsin return?

  1. What is the deadline for filing my Wisconsin return?

Your 2009 return is due April 15, 2010, unless you have an extension of time to file. If you file late, without an extension, you are subject to penalties and interest. If you have been allowed an extension for filing your federal return, this automatically gives you a Wisconsin extension, provided you attach a copy of your federal extension to your Wisconsin return when you file or attach a statement to the front of your Wisconsin return stating you wish to take the federal extension provision.

A return is considered filed by the due date if all three of the following conditions are met:

    • the return is mailed in a properly addressed envelope with the postage duly prepaid,
    • the envelope containing the return is postmarked on or before the due date, and
    • the return is received by the Department of Revenue within 5 days of the due date.
