Form W-2, W2-G, WT-7, 1099-MISC and 1099-R File Transmission
- Do I mail the Form WT-7, or can I send it electronically?
- Do I need a personal identification number PIN) or password to transfer my W-2 file?
- Is data transmitted over the Internet encrypted or otherwise protected?
- Will I receive a confirmation receipt after I upload a W-2 and 1099 report file?
- If I am filing Forms 1099 electronically with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), do I also file need to file a copy of these forms with the state of Wisconsin?
- Is there a way to enter or key individual W-2s through your website?

You must file Form WT-7 electronically. There are two electronic filing options:
- My Tax Account - To use My Tax Account, you need a logon ID and password.

If you have been given an electronic filing waiver, you may use Form WT-7. Note: We will immediately acknowledge WT-7 forms filed electronically.

- Do I need a personal identification number (PIN) or password to transfer my W-2 file?
No. You do not need a PIN or password to file Form W-2s.
- Is data transmitted over the Internet encrypted or otherwise protected?
Yes. The file is posted by HTTPS to a web server and the data is protected with SSL 128bit encryption. This standard is also used for Internet financial transactions.
- Will I receive a confirmation receipt after I upload a W-2 and 1099 report file?
- You will see confirmation the file transferred successfully ("OK Transfer Complete") along with a confirmation number and time stamp showing when we received the file.
- Print a copy if this screen for your records.
- There is no email confirmation.
- If we have problems with your file, we will contact you.

- If I am filing Forms 1099 electronically with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), do I also need to file a copy of these forms with the state of Wisconsin?
Payors do not need to file Forms 1099 with Wisconsin if the following is true:
- No Wisconsin tax was withheld and you the 1099s to the SSA/IRS (this reporting waiver does not apply to rent and royalty payments), or
- You participated in the Combined Federal/State filing program.
Note: The IRS will send us the information.
- Is there a way to enter or key individual W-2s through your website?
- You can enter individual W-2s through My Tax Account.
- We also accept the W-2 PDF files created on the Social Security Administration (SSA) website. If you are a small business, you can key in and file your W-2s at the SSA website and submit the PDF file to us through our website. See the instructions below.
To file your W-2 forms electronically:
- Go to the SSA website at ssa.gov/employer/.
- Go to "Business Services Online."
- Choose "Register" or "Complete a phone registration."
- Create your PIN and password.
- Complete W-2s on the SSA website using the tutorials and instructions.
- Save the Portable Document Format (PDF) file on your PC.
- Now go to our W-2 Online filing page at revenue.wi.gov/eserv/w-2.html and follow the instructions for transmitting a PDF file.
- Click "Ready to transfer SSA PDF", select "W2 PDF" in the drop down box, browse and locate the file on your PC and click "Transfer."
Note: We can only accept PDF generated W-2 files created at the SSA website. We will not accept any other type of PDF generated W-2 file.
